This piece has not been exhibited at all, it was completed ten years ago in 2005 and is called ‘Long Landscape’. It is a response to Devon’s wonderful fields that criss-cross this beautiful part of the world. I thought it would be a good match for a poem I wrote on this blog a couple of years ago, called ‘No place like Home’. written for one of my children who was embarking on a journey. 11.09.2012. I hope you like it. G x.
TRAVELS.
Wherever you travel, wherever you roam,
wherever your heart lays to rest,
It’s only a thought that there’s no place like home,
that it will be always the best.
Whatever transpires, whatever occurs,
your loved ones will love you the same,
the path that you follow
can lead you to where
you will find your fortune and fame.
And every dark cloud that colours your sky
will call on your strength till it passes by,
but nothing is easy that’s not worth a try,
it’s worth all the tears that we cry.
So follow the road that is steep and is long,
and take on the journey that’s hard,
and know that when all your travels are done,
you can rest in your own backyard.
Wherever you travel, wherever you roam,
wherever your heart lays to rest,
It’s only a thought that there’s no place like home,
that it will be always the best.
