FLAME RESISTANT

A Poem from September 2012 inspired by a painting I did of the same name.

FLAME RESISTANT

I think I must be flame resistant
when it comes to you,
I put you out with tears.
I’ve avoided you for years
you burn so hot
I don’t know what you’ve got,
I put you out with tears.

I think I must be flame resistant,
people say I have asbestos hands,
but I never laid a finger on you
when I had the chance,
the fire alarm was sounding and
I put you out with tears.

You burn so bright the stars
give up the fight
and hide below the covers
in their cool black bed.

I think I must be flame resistant
when it comes to you
I know just what to do,
I put you out with tears.
