WIND IN THE SAILS. Acrylic on Linen. 2023.

A new work in Acrylic on Canvas completed in October-September 2023, typical of the geometric abstract pieces I have been doing of late. As is increasingly normal, the title comes at the latter stage, once the painting is almost finished. Wind in the sails in this instance has two references: firstly as a reference to my yearly participation in the Art al Vent, (Art in The Wind) festival in Spain, and secondly and a comment on that feeling of getting somewhere with a work, improving and enjoying the challenge that creating a new piece brings.

WIND IN THE SAILS.

Mixed Media on Linen Canvas. 60 x 60 x 3.7 cm. August 2023.

A superb original example of the artists use of shape and pattern to construct an in depth examination of space and form on a flat canvas.

The artist recalled: ‘This piece has details initially inspired by the fabrics of Henry Moor which often employ limited colour ways focussing on the importance of organic line. There is a whimsical element to the work which permeates, but beyond that the use of stark contrasts has highlighted the illusion of 3D, giving it for me, a stronger link with the work of Vladimir Tatlin and Alexander Rodchenko, who spearheaded the constructivist movement in the early 20C. Strange indeed how one’s early studies into art history come back to haunt you in the present day.’

The work is completed on a deep edge primed Linen Canvas with painted edges, fully UV Varnished, ready to hang and signed front and back of work, complete with a signed certificate of authenticity.
