I took in 18 paintings to The Words and Pictures Gallery, Teignmouth this morning. Jason Noble, the gallery owner, has been busy exhibiting the work today getting it ready for the opening on Saturday 5th from 5-7 pm. There is something very satisfying about seeing a series such as this all displayed together. I tend to work from one piece to the next and though each work can stand alone, when exhibited together they take on a new character by virtue of the many comparisons they illicit. Surprising similarities and differences become apparent which can even surprise the artist. This series has been completed ( so far) over three years, working gradually on the paintings with lots of other work produced in the intervening months. In this way the progression of work can be interfered with, but with these coffee sack pieces the use of the sacks has been a constant leveller, which demands that the textures and text have to be treated with due respect. Please if you are in Teignmouth pop in to the gallery and take a look. I hope you enjoy the show. G
